A The payment you received is called the “Clean Energy Advance”.  It is a lump sum one off payment made to eligible recipients under the Federal Governments, “Household Assistance Package”.  This package covers a range of payments made to offset the anticipated increase in household costs associated with the implementation of the Government’s Clean Energy Reforms aka Carbon Tax.

You received $250 as a single Age Pension recipient.  Couples received $380, other Centrelink recipients will receive varied amounts depending on their benefit entitlements.

Pensioners will receive the Clean Energy Supplement, a 1.7% increase in regular Pension payments from March 2013.  The timing of this payment for other Centrelink recipients will depend upon the type of benefit you are receiving.

Additional benefits you may be eligible for from 1 July include:

  • A lump sum Low Income Supplement of $300 if your taxable income is less than $30,000 as a single with no dependents.
  •  An Essential Medical Equipment annual payment of $140 if you use essential medical equipment to manage your disability or medical condition.
  •  Single Income Family supplement of $300 if you have a dependent child or children.

Also note as part of the reform from 1 July 2012 new Income tax rates come into effect
